Blessing of the Boats

The Blessing of the Fleet originated centuries ago in the Mediterranean, seeking divine intervention to ensure a safe and bountiful fishing season. The tradition thereafter spread to ports throughout Europe and to the New World. It continues to be celebrated throughout the world at the beginning of the boating/fishing season, asking for the safe return of the ships and boats, along with their crews, as they leave port for the open waters. This is the seventh year that the Blessing of the Boats program has been conducted at the Lake City Yacht Club. Whether or not you are a boater, sailor, or fisherperson, you are encouraged to take this opportunity to celebrate the beauty of Lake Pepin as we pray for another safe and enjoyable boating and fishing season.
