Walk into Local History: Coffee Walk & Talk at the Hok-Si-La Campground
May 25 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Hok-Si-La Park
Begin your Memorial Day celebration early with this new, collaborative program between the Goodhue County Historical Society and Hok-Si-La Park & Campground.
First, learn about the history of the area, including:
  • The Silvernale Phase: when Lake Pepin was a cultural center for different Native American groups hundreds of years prior to white settlement.
  • The Story of Rest Island: a 19th century spiritual retreat for “drunkards and inebriates,” established during the years leading up to Prohibition.
Next, explore the park as the group takes a scenic walk along Lake Pepin with guides from the Hok-Si-La Campground. The short walk includes a trip to a nearby eagles nest. Coffee and water will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park following the program.
